Fort Steele Heritage Town
With the backdrop of the Rocky and Purcell mountains, Fort Steele is closely linked to gold discoveries of the 1860's. Fort Steele became the region's commercial and social centre as the thriving town grew into the late 1890's/early 1900's.
Fort Steele is now a historic park and remains one the most important attractions in BC.
To reach Fort Steele it is about a 20-minute drive from Cranbrook. Drive highway #3/95 north of Cranbrook and take the turnoff onto highway #93/95 north toward Fort Steele and Invermere.
