Winter Activities

The Canadian Rockies International Airport, with flights from the three major Canadian airlines - including WestJet and Pacific Coastal Airlines - land you right on the Powder Highway.

Cranbrook is set on the Powder Highway, the world’s most concentrated array of resort and backcountry skiing. Within three hours of Cranbrook you will find over 10 world-class ski resorts-including Kimberley situated 20 minutes away and Fernie just a one-hour drive. More into heli or cat skiing, we’ve got that too, just base yourself here and be ready to shred the gnar!

A white coat blankets the valley, mountains, and riverbanks of Cranbrook. The hush of winter makes this a quiet escape with plenty of activities to get your body moving outdoors. Known for mild winters, Cranbrook is a great destination for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. South Star Recreation Area sits just beyond the city limits and offer more than 50 km (16 mi) of trails set amongst western larch and pine trees for cross-country skiers. The Cranbrook Community Forest is great for snowshoers and adventure seekers will find solace in Lumberton, just south of the city, where over 50 km (16 mi) of groomed snowmobile trails await.
