South Star Recreation Trails
The South Star Recreation Trails are a multi-use, multi-season, non-motorized trail system located at the southeast of Cranbrook.
A winter favorite for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The trails are nordic track set for classic cross-country skiing and the centre of the main trail is set for skate-skiing. Daily or season passes are required to use maintained trails in winter. See their website for donation & membership information
Summer offers great opportunities for biking, hiking, walking, and horseback riding while winter is great for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The trails are nordic track set for classic cross-country skiing and the centre of the main trail is set for skate-skiing.
Access; Drive Victoria Ave. S. and as it leaves the city it becomes Gold Creek Road. Stay on the main road south (past the Gold Creek Market) for 1.3 km. Turn right (south) onto 38 Ave. and drive for 3 more kms. Drive past the yellow forestry gate and see a large parking area and a trail map.
Winter Trail Etiquette At South Star
- Trails in the South Star Recreation Area are open to all users throughout the snow free seasons. During the winter however, trail use changes to accommodate more activities that recreation on snow allows. In an attempt to meet the needs of all the various users, trails have been designated for specific uses. It is a challenge to accommodate all users with enough trail to participate in their specific activity. The Board struggles with this challenge. The hope is that the trail designations meet the needs of each group.
- Check out the Trail Chart which lists all the trails at South Star and corresponding activities designated for that trail.
