Heritage
Stroll the streets and gaze at historic buildings on a self-guided tour. Visit the Royal Alexandra Hall and the Edwardian architecture that lines its walls. Check out the Museum of Rail Travel at the Cranbrook History Centre to discover the largest collection of trains in North America which includes the executive Strathcona car; prestige train car whose guests have included Queen Elizabeth II and Sir Winston Churchill.
The most prominent historic site sits outside the city at Fort Steele Heritage Town. Perched on the slopes of the Rocky Mountains, this historic site has lived through the ages; from boomtown to ghost town. It is now a living history museum with theatre performances and live demonstrations and reenactments.
Top tips! Sleep in history - book a stay at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort, spend the night in a train car. Book into a B&B at Fort Steele - the Windsor Hotel or at St Eugene Resort with the Ktunaxa First Nation, spend a night in a teepee!
