Ktunaxa Nature Walk: Alfred Joseph’s Walkabout

June 18, 2024

Explore the wonders of the natural world through the eyes of Ktunaxa Elder Alfred Joseph on this captivating nature walk. Participants will embark on a journey guided by Alfred's extensive knowledge of Ktunaxa language and culture, starting from his own doorstep.

The centerpiece of this experience is Alfred's meticulously crafted booklet, featuring 150 Ktunaxa words and phrases paired with vivid imagery and QR codes. These codes lead to audio recordings where Alfred himself pronounces each word, enriching the understanding of local flora, fauna, and landscapes.

Alfred Joseph, a former chief of the ʔakisq̓nuk Nation and a passionate educator, shares his lifelong commitment to preserving and passing on Ktunaxa traditional knowledge. This walkabout not only promises to deepen participants' appreciation for nature but also offers a unique opportunity to engage with the rich cultural heritage of the Ktunaxa people.
