The South Star Recreation Trails located southeast of Cranbrook. South Star Trails are primarily used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during winter. The trails are nordic track set for classic cross-country skiing and the centre of the main trail is set for skate-skiing. Daily or season passes are required to use maintained trails in winter.
Summer offers great opportunities for biking, hiking, walking, and horseback riding for multi-use, multi-season, non-motorized trail system.
In autumn (mid-October at low elevations around Cranbrook) the western larch trees' needles turn golden and are dropped in preparation for winter. The slopes around South Star Trails are a vibrant gold for a couple of weeks.
Access; Drive Victoria Ave. S. and as it leaves the city it becomes Gold Creek Road. Stay on the main road south (past the Gold Creek Market) for 1.3 km. Turn right (south) onto 38 Ave. and drive for 3 more kms. Drive past the yellow forestry gate and see a large parking area and a trail map.
