Kootenay Trout Hatchery

A visit to a Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC Trout Hatchery is a one-of-a-kind experience for families of all ages.

Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided tour and in-season, there are educational programs for school classes, and you can even arrange a surprise birthday party for your child.  Kids have so much fun, they don’t even know they’re learning!

Take a nature walk to see native plants, birds and animals of the region, or help the kids to catch-and-release a fish in the children’s fishing pond.  Rods are available for loan from May to August and staff can help get visitors set up for fishing.  Pond may be closed to the public during registered programs.  Please call ahead to confirm availability.

Learn to Fish programs are also available throughout the summer at a variety of lakes and parks. For more information on such programs, please visit gofishbc.com.

The hours of operation are from 9 am to 3 pm daily for the visitor centre and the fishing pond is open from dawn to dusk.
