Holiday Spirit Abounds in Cranbrook
As winter settles over the valley and the mountains take on their colder edge, Cranbrook eases into the season in its own steady way. Lights go up. Streets feel closer. Local shops, makers and venues open their doors a little wider. These are the gatherings that shape December here — simple, welcoming, and full of the stories that make this place what it is.
Downtown Shopping Night
Friday, November 28 — 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Downtown opens late for an easy evening wander through local shops and restaurants. You’ll find small treats, warm drinks and good conversation from the people who keep this part of town running year-round. It’s the kind of night where you pick up a gift you didn’t plan on, catch up with someone you haven’t seen in a while, and remember why supporting local feels so natural here.

Pet Pictures with Santa
Saturday, November 29
Top Crop invites pets to take their turn with Santa. Bring your dog, cat or any furry character who shares your home. Photos support local animal-rescue efforts, turning a light-hearted moment into real help for the community. The mix of wagging tails, holiday sweaters and neighbours swapping stories makes this one of the season’s most down-to-earth traditions.
Holiday Winter Market
Saturday, November 29 — 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday, November 30 — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Western Financial Place fills with local makers, bakers and growers for a market that feels as rooted as it gets. Tables are lined with handmade goods, fresh food, woodwork, art and small-batch items crafted right here in the Kootenays. Admission is free, with donations to the Cranbrook Food Bank encouraged. If you want something thoughtful and local, this is where you’ll find it.
JCI Kootenay’s Santa Claus Parade
Saturday, November 29 — 5:30 p.m.
The annual parade winds through downtown, lighting up Baker Street and the surrounding blocks. Families line the sidewalks, kids wave from bundled layers and the floats add a colourful glow to the early evening. The route is familiar to many, and that’s part of the charm — a tradition carried forward, shared year after year.

CPKC Holiday Train
Sunday, December 14 — Train arrives 8:45 p.m., event 9–9:30 p.m.
The Holiday Train rolls into the 25 Van Horne Street lot with its bright railcars and live performance. Before it arrives, the Cranbrook History Centre hosts a warm-up from 7 to 9 p.m., offering hot chocolate and access to the galleries. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations. The late-night glow of the train against the winter sky is something you don’t forget.
Johnny Reid Christmas Tour
Friday, December 19 — 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The Key City Theatre welcomes Johnny Reid for an evening of music and storytelling. His holiday show blends familiar songs with moments that feel personal and close-knit, fitting for a community that values gatherings that aren’t rushed. It’s a good pick if you’re looking for warmth indoors and a steady break from the season’s pace.
More events will continue to be added throughout the month. Check our Events Calendar for updates, and if your own gathering isn’t listed yet, feel free to submit it.
Here’s to a season shaped by small moments, shared stories and the people who make Cranbrook feel like home.
